XENOS: DOMINION SOLDIER

Another 3.5e conversion to spice up the encounters in the Dominion Hive.  A pair of these were bodyguards for Paajgat.  Players cleverly figured out after the first one detonated to make sue the second one was pinned via telekineses at least 40 feet away.

Magic Resistance. The soldier has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Magic Weapons. The soldier’s weapon attacks are magical.

ACTIONS
Blades of Thoon. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 19 (3d8 + 6) slashing damage plus aspect affect (see below).

Aspect of Bloody Slaughter. By expending a bonus action and taking 5 points of damage, a Thoon soldier can reconfigure its limbs to deal damage to multiple adjacent foes. When in this aspect, a Dominion soldier can make an attack against every adjacent foe with its Blades of Thoon as an attack action, and it can make unlimited attacks of opportunity. A Dominion soldier can have only one aspect active at a time. When adopting this aspect, a Dominion soldier says in Aklo, “Slaughter for Thoon!”

Aspect of the Fiery Sun. By expending a bonus action and taking 5 points of damage, a Dominion soldier can channel quintessence from its body, creating heat. The Dominion soldier’s Blades of Thoon attacks deal an extra 2d6 points of fire damage, and creatures that hit it with a natural weapon or a nonreach melee weapon take 1d6 points of fire damage. A Dominion soldier can have only one aspect active at a time. When adopting this aspect, a Dominion soldier says in Aklo, “All will burn for Thoon!”

Aspect of the Impervious Tower. By expending a bonus action and taking 5 points of damage, a Dominion soldier can extrude extra armor plates and bolster its magical defenses. When using this aspect, a Dominion soldier gains advantage on saving throws and a +4 bonus to AC. A Thoon soldier can have only one aspect active at a time. When adopting this aspect, a Dominion soldier says in Aklo, “Stand and fight! Thoon is Thoon!”

Aspect of the Ravenous Horde. By expending a bonus action and taking 5 points of damage, a Dominion soldier can reconfigure its lower limbs for greater speed and maneuverability. When in this aspect, a Dominion soldier’s speed increases to 40 feet, and it can make an unlimited number of Blades of Thoon melee attacks in the middle of its move (but only oncer per adjacent creature). This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity.   A Dominion soldier can have only one aspect active at a time. When adopting this aspect, a Dominion soldier says in Aklo, “Walk with Thoon!”

REACTIONS
Aspect of the Death Blossom. A Thoon soldier has one final mode it enters if it starts its turn with between 5 and 20 hit points left or is reduced to 0 hit points outside its turn. By expending a reaction (or bonus action) and taking 5 points of damage, a Dominion soldier can reconfigure its body to explode when destroyed. If destroyed when in the aspect of the death blossom, a Dominion soldier deals 24 (8d6) points of fire damage to all creatures within a 40- foot-radius burst (Dexterity DC 17 half).  A Dominion soldier can have only one aspect active at any time.  When adopting this aspect, a Thoon soldier says in Aklo, “Death blooms in the name of Thoon! Thoon! Thoon!” and begins to glow and hum ominously.  A Thoon soldier doesn’t change out of the aspect of the death blossom until it’s fully healed.

TACTICS
A Dominion Soldier makes aspect decisions on a round by round basis. It generally follows this programming:

  • Aspect of the Ravenous Horde to move quickly into battle or to strike many smaller foes.
  • Aspect of Fiery Sun when faced by two foes.
  • Aspect of Bloody Slaughter when faced by 3 or more foes.
  • Aspect of Impervious Tower if a high damage spell is incoming.

DESCRIPTION
This biped is covered with armor plates, yet it moves with a sinuous quality. With a liquid, bubbling sound, it extrudes claws and axe-blades from its arms. The device you seek is held in its chest cavity – floating there.
