Free Trader
Using a 200-ton hull, Rendelli StarDrive Model 805R the free-trader is an elementary interstellar merchant ship, carrying passengers. It is the primary trade and passenger mover in both the Imperium and Confederation. Other civilisations have similar designs for the same purpose. It has the capability of entering atmospheres, making it good for service to planets without orbital platforms or stations. This sturdy little vessel is found virtually everywhere in the galaxy.

Far Trader
The Far Trader is a popular design used by longer ranged shipping companies and commercially aggressive ship captains. The maintenance cost is kept low for the standard haul, ensuring the design's profitability well into the future. The two laser batteries ensure that pirates will have a second thought before attempting to board a Far Trader. Far Traders have enjoyed more success with the continual expansion of the Imperium and Confederation, because of the demand for goods and materials from outside of Imperial and Federated space.

Subsidised Merchant
Allied Shipyards' stalwart Model AS129 light freighter has been one of the most popular cargo ships on the market for the last decade. Its speed and maneuverability aren't the best, and its survivability in combat is questionable, but it can still haul more goods than its closest rival, the CDX Argosy.

Using a 400-ton hull, the Subsidised merchant is a trading vessel intended to meet the commercial needs of clusters of worlds. The ship has an impressive amount of cargo and passenger capacity, but its short range takes it out of far-space operations. It has the capability of entering atmospheres, making it good for planet side service.

Argosy
CDX Starworks is a relatively new player in the cargo-ship market, having previously established its reputation building fighters. Its Argosy-class light freighter has already become quite popular with shipping companies operating near the edge of Confederation space, because of its advantages over the AS129 in the areas of speed, maneuverability, and firepower. Its only real liabilities are its higher price and slightly smaller cargo capacity.

Clipper
Aerostar Space Industries' assembly lines are mainly devoted to producing starship subassemblies for other manufacturers, but their C-35 Star Clipper Mk. IV is their most widely-recognized product. This sleek, delta-winged ship is a combination courier vessel and light warship, and excels in both roles. Its offensive and defensive capabilities are quite good for a ship of its size, and it has ample room for expansion that allows it to be turned into either a top-flight cargo hauler or an outstanding heavy fighter.

Courier
If you're looking to get your large cargo to its destination as quickly as possible, look no further than the Metroworks V7 courier. It is essentially nothing more than a triad of large engines with a cargo bay and a life-support pod attached. A testament to this ship's high speed, long range, and great reliability is the fact that Starbound Express uses them for nearly 90% of its domestic cargo routes.

Executive Transport
Forward-thinking executives of the galaxy's top corporations use the Krydanti Systems Mk. VI executive transport for their business needs. It enables its wealthy passengers to travel quickly in style and comfort, though admittedly without any defensive armament.

Luxury Liner
Centauri Spacelines operates its custom-built luxury liners between all of the Core Worlds. For the price of a ticket, which is literally astronomical, you get six days and nights of blissful relaxation aboard what has been called "the most decadent thing ever to leave drydock." A gourmet chef and an eager crew are always at your disposal, and, if you're a member of the aristocracy, so are the pretty young flight attendants who see to the wealthy's "special" desires.

Satellite of Love
Bosses don't like you? Trapped in space and forced to watch cheesy movies? Have to keep your sanity with the help of your robot friends? Then this ship is for you. Only one has been made to date. This "Satellite of Love" features a full theater in the forward section and living quarters below deck. Deep 13 not included. If you're wondering how you'll eat and breathe and other science facts, then repeat to yourself, "It's just a game, I should really just relax."

Subsidised Liner
The Subsidised Liner was originally of Imperial design and manufacture, but a few of the heartier Captains of these ships will be found plying the Confederation space lanes to turn an extra profit. The Liner is the Imperial Governments solution to the problem of not having enough passenger service between Imperial planets. The large ship has a good passenger capacity, and is able to maintain a high quality of service within normal shipping lanes. The ship is capable of longer ranges, and several have been used in extra-Imperial runs, in particular, Confederation runs. The Sector Government frowns upon such activity, but has been unable to suppress such action.

Safari Ship
The safari ship is an excursion vessel intended for trophy-taking (real or photographic) expeditions to other worlds. It comes with two ships vehicles: an air raft and 20-ton launch. Two 7-ton tanks hold specimens, and a 7-ton trophy lounge serves as a hunter;s recreation are. The hull is streamlined. Its high maneuverability makes it a popular vessel amoung Bounty Hunters, Pirates and other miscreants.

Kestrel
The Atinoda Kestrel is the most powerful ship available to civilians. In addition to its already formidable complement of weaponry, this sleek, black vessel carries a pair of Lightning fighter-bombers; this combination is the reason the Kestrel is classified as an escort frigate. Of course, Atinoda only sells this kind of firepower to the most reputable of private customers, but rumor has it that a freighter full of Kestrel subassemblies recently disappeared near the edge of Confederation space...

Corvette
The Maskirovka IPV-1 Corvette is a hard ship to classify - its maneuverability and acceleration make it perform like a heavy fighter, but it is armed like a light capital ship. Maskirovka builds the Corvette to fill the gap in the commercial starship market between the classical
star fighters and the super-powerful Atinoda Kestrel. The Corvette has been popular with corporate governments who need to police their space, as it makes an excellent customs and patrol vessel.

Defender
The CDX Starworks I-287B Defender is used primarily by corporations and small governments who wish to protect their spheres of influence. Although the Defender is the fastest and most maneuverable fighter in production, its light armament, weak shielding, and abysmal fuel capacity relegate it to the role of an in-system interceptor, not a strike fighter. This latest version, the Defender Mk. II, has been retrofitted with larger fuel tanks to address this concern, but it is still limited in range.

Lightning Fighter-Bomber
Blazitron Industries' new F-563 Lightning fighter-bomber recently won the Shelton Award for Extreme Cleverness, and it's easy to see why. The Lightning mixes high speed and good maneuverability with excellent firepower, resulting in an unbeatable combination. In addition, the design is so adaptable that a modified version, the F-563N, has been produced for shipboard operations.

Vargr Scout
Using a 100t hull, the Vargr scout is primarily a military and paramilitary ship, used by naval units and corsair bands for reconnaissance and ground support duties. Sometimes used for small time trading activity, it is generally identified with Vargr corsair raids, and normally, when this ship is spotted, merchants jump out as quickly as possible, because a corsair band is usually not to far behind.

Aslan Far Trader
Aslan 'Far Trader' class vessels are popular in both the Imperium and Confederation amoung militant's, due to the vessels excellent and sleek design and armaments. Aslan Far Trader's are generally immune to pirate attacks, due to the Aslans war-like character and code of honour, these vessels are almost uncapturable, the captain always self-destructs the moment the vessel is disabled.

Hiver Cruiser
Used mostly for diplomatic missions and military observation, the Hiver Cruiser is the main ship of the Hiver Federations Navy. Hivers abhor confrontation, so there vessels generally reflect this mind set. This style of vessel is sometimes found in the hands of adventurer's or non-Hive dignitaries. The reason for this is that the Hive will bestow a cruiser or smaller vessel as a gift to those who have done the Hive a great service.

Many people are impressed by the vessels design and combat worthiness, and are surprised that the Hivers, who abhor physical confrontation, could produce such a note worthy vessel. The reason why is because the design is of Ithklur origin. The vessel is also mostly manned by Ithklur.

Hiver Far Trader
Used by smaller Merchant
organisations and independent traders, the Hiver Far Trader is a popular choice amoung entrepreneurs in the federation.
