ROBOTS AND ANDROIDS: Binox, Duke of the Machine Kingdom

Screen Shot 2015-07-11 at 23.44.54I was worried this guy was going to murder my party as they were underpowered for this encounter and had used up a bunch of resources.  Of course they surprised me.  The sorceress, Charisma, pulled out one of the looted spell books of Xoud and casts rebuke technology.  Binox failed and, is essentially paralysed, while the party then takes him apart and salvages him for parts.  Oh the irony of it all.

Gift of the Machine God. As a creature of technology Binox gains many damage and condition residences and immunities but they are also susceptible to lighting attacks.

Force Field. A torture bot is sheathed in a thin layer of shimmering energy that grants it 50 bonus hit points. All damage dealt to a torture bot with an active force field is reduced from these hit points first. As long as the force field is active, the torture bot is immune to critical hits and loses its vulnerabilities. A torture bot’s force field re-ignites every round on the harvester’s turn.  If an attacker gains a critical hit and does enough damage to overwhelm the shield (that is, do 50 or more damage in one attack) it is instead destroyed and cannot be used again until repaired.

Hazard Duty. The reclamation robot’s advanced robotic frame provides a measure of protection against attacks. The reclamation robot has a damage threshold of 10. It reduces all damage per attack by 10.

Item Creation. Reclamation robots are known for their startling creativity in repairing damaged technology. A reclamation robot can create almost any technological item so long as it has the time and resources to do so.

Salvage. A reclamation robot is designed specifically to salvage technology for further use. All Craft skills are class skills for reclamation robots, and they gain a +4 racial bonus on Knowledge (cybertheurgy) checks and gains Gearhead as a bonus feat. A reclamation robot can repair 6 (2d6) points of damage to a robot within reach (including itself) as a bonus action.

Scaling. Reclamation robots are expected to work at great heights or while clinging to immense ships. The Binox can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.   As a bonus action, a reclamation robot can increase its climb speed to 40 feet for 1 round. It may only use this ability once per short rest.

Glitchy. Like all robots, reclamation robots are vulnerable to critical hits. In addition, when a critical hit is confirmed against a reclamation robot, roll a d8. On a roll of 1, instead of suffering additional damage from the critical hit, the robot suffers damage to essential processing units and memory modules that it cannot itself repair (although another reclamation robot could repair this damage). While such damage is not readily apparent on the exterior—and the robot itself is essentially unaware of it—this kind of injury can have a number of different effects. When such an injury occurs, roll d% and consult the following chart to determine the nature of the damage.

ACTIONS
Multiattack. Binox makes two claw attacks OR attacks every adjacent foe once with its Claw attack, additionally when available Binox makes one integrated lasgun attack per round.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target.
Hit: 19 (3d8 + 6) piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 17 Strength saving throw or become grappled. Grappled creatures automatically suffer 19 (3d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage per turn as the claw crushes them. Binox may grapple up to five Medium (or smaller) creatures at a time.

Integrated Lasgun (Recharge 5-6). The reclamation robot shoots a burst from its chest in a 15-foot square of radiant damage. Each creature in the burst area must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (5d8) radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

DESCRIPTION
This complex-looking automaton’s multiple arms end in gripping talons. It moves about on a set of four legs and has a strange bell-shaped head.
