Gasha-Dokuro

An epic level threat for an oriental adventures campaign. Directly inspired by the creature of the same name from Nioh which in turn comes from the original Japanese folklore version. Gasha-Dokuro is a gigantic yokai born from the remains of the fallen soldiers at Sekigahara. Even in spite of its power and the number of […]

Men-Shen

Found in “Blood of the Yakuza” converted here as I like the concept. Its essentially a good oni. It seems to be a Chinese version of the Zuishin but I felt it was different enough to be its own kami. MEN-SHEN Large celestial (kami), neutral Armor Class 16 (Chain Mail) Hit Points 110 (13d10 + 39) Speed […]

Chattering Ghost

A type of hungry ghost, this child ghost seeks to choke the life out of mortals. CHATTERING GHOST Small undead (yokai), chaotic evil Armor Class 12 Hit Points 13 (3d6 + 3) Speed 0 ft., fly 40 ft. (hover) STR DEX CON INT WIS CHA 16 (+3) 14 (+2) 14 (+1) 4 (-3) 12 (+1) 7 (-2) Skills Stealth +6 Damage […]

Travelling to the Phoenix Ruby Tournament

I took the Phoenix Ruby Tournament and updated it to 5e and for my campaign – details on how I changed the flow and individual battles you can see in the adventure path flowchart. The flowchart will make sense of the individual posts in this series. They first had to get there and they decided […]

Rimiko of the Five Storms

Original adventure used a yukka-onna – a type of white lady ghost undead. I replaced her with a Five Storm Wind/Ice oni named Rimiko. The fight had two phases with the second phase potentially triggering a dominated kami but my PCs stopped the ritual before that happened. This was the boss fight that ended the […]

Ithkarsus – Epic Kraken Cleric

Looking to use Raising of Redshore (Dungeon 092) as a gateway to epic leveling as well as a way to bring the octopi into the Oni Wars. Here is one of the more interesting enemies converted to 5e. Ithkarsus has a dire shark animal companion (use a dragon turtle stat block). I really don’t like […]

INFESTED STATUE

Another monster stolen from Sekiro – the Immortal Monk. My PCs bypassed these as well as one of my players had played Sekiro and when he saw a giant centipede burst out of a monk statue he told the party to run. Built of a flesh golem. Part of the Hungry Storm adventure (a combination […]

MONASTIC TRADITION: IKIRYO MASTER (v1.0)

A new monastic tradition for the monk class that for my Oriental Adventures campaign. Inspired by Jojo. Summoning version. This is the better version IMO so long as your PC is happy to effectively run two characters. IKIRYO MASTER An ikiryo is a visual manifestation of evil life energy, unique to each monk. The monks who follow this school […]

MONASTIC TRADITION: IKIRYO MASTER (v2.0)

A new monastic tradition for the monk class that for my Oriental Adventures campaign. Inspired by Jojo. I worked on multiple revisions of this. Initially I thought an Eidolon/Summoner type monk would work as thematically this would fit well – the stand user summons his stand and uses it in battle while he stays passive. But this is like […]

KOORI no ONI (Type I, II and III)

I tend to base my oni on giants take a leaf out of the Paizo book of oni design. This fits both the historical mythology (oni tended to all be giants) as well as the D&D mythology with the ogre-mage (a magical ogre). The reason there are three variants is because during the Hungry Storm […]
