This adventure, Five Deadly Shadows, is from Dungeon #195. A 4e adventure which I converted to 5e. I used this to show the players two things – the larger spiritual battle happening between Amaterasu and Tsuki-Yomi vs the oni god Fumeiyoshi. As well as the cultural difference between East and West in particular for a Japanese-analogue culture.
Apart from emphasising these powers through the adventure and making it explicit that the Five Deadly Shadows worshiped Fumeiyoshi I played the adventure as written.
Hiro Yun is the fallen magistrate whose spirits the PCs can save.

Insubstantial. Hiro takes half damage from any damage source, except those that deal force damage or radiant damage. In addition, if Hiro takes radiant damage, he loses the insubstantial trait until the end of his next turn.
Martial Fury. As a bonus action, the sword wraith can make one weapon attack, which deals an extra 9 (2d8) necrotic damage on a hit. If it does so, attack rolls against it have advantage until the start of its next turn.
Turning Defiance. The sword wraith and any other sword wraiths within 30 feet of it have advantage on saving throws against effects that turn undead.
Weeping Aura. Living creatures within 50 feet of Hiro take a -2 penalty to AC and Saving Throws.
Gaze of Sadness. When a creature that can see Hiro’s eyes starts its turn within 50 feet of him, he can force it to make a DC 14 Intelligence saving throw if Hiro can see the creature. On a failed saving throw the target takes 9 (2d8) psychic damage and takes -2 penalty to attack rolls until the end of the targets next turn, or half damage and no penalty to attack rolls on a success.
ACTIONS
Sorrowful Touch. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) psychic damage, and the target is grief-stricken (DC 14 Wisdom saving throw at the end of the targets turn). While grief-stricken, the target gains vulnerability to psychic damage and is dazed.
Gaze of Sadness. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) psychic damage.
REACTIONS
Woeful Shriek (1/Day). When Hiro is bloodied he gives off a ghostly shout. All creatures that can hear him and are within 20 feet of Hiro must make a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or take 9 (2d8) psychic damage, and the target is grief-stricken (DC 14 Wisdom saving throw at the end of the targets turn to end this condition). While grief-stricken, the target gains vulnerability to psychic damage and is dazed.
