Kala

Another creature I didn’t originally convert because I wasn’t sure where it came from so couldn’t at context to it. Does not seem to be of Japanese or Chinese mythology – maybe Indian? If anyone knows would love to find the source for these guys. These seem like a yeti type humanoid so built them that way. Converted for completeness sake. […]

Ikiryo

Another creature I didn’t originally convert because I felt I its just a reskin of something like a wraith. But on second review this is worth converting (as well as for completeness sake). This creature doesn’t make much sense as a monster as such, unless its summoned, therefore it is more a hazard than a […]

Hai Nu (Locathath)

Another creature I didn’t originally convert because I felt I its just a reskin of something like a locathath would do. Converted for completeness sake. HAI NU Medium humanoid (ningyo), lawful neutral Armor Class 11 Hit Points 11 (2d8 + 2) Speed 10 ft., swim 40 ft. STR DEX CON […]

Goblin Spider

There were some monsters from the AD&D Oriental Adventure book I did not convert originally because I didn’t see the point of them from an D&D ecological point of view the goblin spider was one of these. However, these are legitimate creatures from Japanese mythology so for completeness sake here is the goblin spider. It also […]

A Whale to Remember

Urlkathoon Awakened Cachalot Whale Gargantuan beast, chaotic neutral Armor Class 16 (barkskin, if dispelled AC is 14) Hit Points 276 (24d20 + 24) Speed 0 ft., swim 60 ft. Goblin Rat

There were some monsters from the AD&D Oriental Adventure book I did not convert originally because I didn’t see the point of them from an D&D ecological point of view. However, these are legitimate creatures from Japanese mythology so for complexes sake here they are. Goblin Rat Goblin rats live on the fringes of human […]

Harinobo

Inspired by both Japanese mythology and the Nioh version. Though in nioh its more of an ooze I went with an incorporeal undead type. “A Yokai which emerged from thrown away needles“ The Harinobo is a Yokai formed by worn-out needles and broken blades. People in Japan believed that objects used for long periods of […]

Nue and Nue Familiar

The Japanese chimera with an option for wizards to turn it into a familiar (also appropriate to the lore of Japan). Most of the inspiration came from Nioh as opposed to mythology as such. Possesses a monkey’s face, a tiger’s torso, and snake for a tail, Nue is a fearsome creature of lightning. In addition […]

Gasha-Dokuro

An epic level threat for an oriental adventures campaign. Directly inspired by the creature of the same name from Nioh which in turn comes from the original Japanese folklore version. Gasha-Dokuro is a gigantic yokai born from the remains of the fallen soldiers at Sekigahara. Even in spite of its power and the number of […]

Men-Shen

Found in “Blood of the Yakuza” converted here as I like the concept. Its essentially a good oni. It seems to be a Chinese version of the Zuishin but I felt it was different enough to be its own kami. MEN-SHEN Large celestial (kami), neutral Armor Class 16 (Chain Mail) Hit Points 110 (13d10 + 39) Speed […]
