Watched this documentary over the Easter long weekend.
Not bad, could have done without the “gamers” woke talking points. But the insight into the golden and silver age artists is great. One big miss is how the art style overall has changed over the generations. Originally, the art style showed adventurers as victims. They were just normal people dealing with a bad situation, it then morphed into more sword and sorcery Frazetta and Vallejo esque style and the modern 3rd edition onwards is more epic heroes – more like superhero art. I prefer the silver and golden age that harkens back to a time of not super-heroes but normal men using their wits, teamwork and equipment to beat creatures vastly more powerful than them.
Having said all that, I am glad someone has preserved these interviews with the masters of D&D art for posterity sake.
